Local organizers are planning a second TEDxAirlie event to be held March 29 at Thalian Hall.
The half-day conference will feature talks centered around the event’s theme, “The Bridge.”
Bridges, which we can find around the Port City, are iconic structures used to connect people, places and things – precisely what TEDxAirlie will be about, stated a news release.
“We’re thrilled to bring another TEDx event to our hometown,” Ashley Garner, the event’s lead organizer said in the news release. “We’re planning a ‘meeting of the minds,’ where dynamic, interesting speakers from around the nation will come together to help us bridge connections with today’s most pressing issues.”
Garner is the founder of Ashley B. Garner & Associates Inc., a Wilmington-based real estate group.
The event is co-organized by Ty Downing, CEO of local digital marketing agency SISDigital, and Brandy Jones, lead project manager at KC Creative.
TEDx is a program of independent events organized by locals.
TED is a nonprofit organization that holds two annual conferences with the goal of spreading ideas, according to the news release.
TEDxAirlie is made up of volunteers who are licensed by TED.
Wilmington's
first TEDxAirlie event was held in March 2016 at Thalian Hall where the theme was “Making Waves.”
Some speakers for the first event included Jim Hall, chief technology officer at N2 Publishing, Kimberly Paul, author and founder of Death By Design website, and Matthew Magne, global principal product manager for data at SAS.
The event will feature a variety of speakers whose speech will be recorded for submission to TED.com.
Organizers plan 100 people to attend the event and applications for speakers are being
accepted online.
The event is aimed at opening minds with inspired ideas, according to the release.
“Wilmington’s greatest assets are the ideas and dreams of our neighbors, near and far,” said Garner. “We want TEDxAirlie to be the platform that gives those ideas and dreams a voice.”
