Proclaim Interactive, a Wilmington-based digital marketing agency, has made its second acquisition this year, this time of Raleigh-based BurlapSky, according to a news release Monday.

BurlapSky provides strategic marketing consultancy with a focus on lead generation and digital marketing for professional service firms, according to the release.

“BurlapSky brings an incredible breadth of knowledge and strong creative thinking to our firm that will keep our results at the top of the pack for years to come,” Spence Hackney, president of Proclaim Interactive, said in the release. “They've proven their ability to deliver top-notch performance on a budget that is a great investment for the client. This acquisition is a huge win for our existing client base.”

The acquisition, which was made for an undisclosed amount, was motivated by the talent present at BurlapSky, Hackney said.

“It is so hard to find people that operate at our caliber,” Hackney said. “We have clients that are a little harder than typical, so we demand higher performance. It is difficult to find direct hires, so when you acquire an agency you get proven talent, which is what we like.”

David Mooring, president and CEO of BurlapSky, has joined the Proclaim Interactive team with the role of marketing strategist.

“After operating BurlapSky as a marketing consultancy for nearly a decade, I have been looking for an opportunity to both expand my service offerings and to collaborate with other experts in my field,” Mooring said in the release. “I’m very impressed with what Spence has built and the team he’s assembled, and I’m confident that joining Proclaim Interactive will allow us to offer a wider variety of expertise and marketing services to our clients."

Hackney said Mooring’s MBA and his 20 years of experience in the field will provide a lot of value to Proclaim Interactive.

Mooring’s portfolio includes work with Fortune 500 companies such as Domino’s Pizza and Martha Stewart Living and institutions like Duke University, Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina and Wilmington and Beaches Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Proclaim Interactive, founded in 2000, provides website design, social media management, SEO and general marketing services. The company has 18 employees.

In January, Proclaim Interactive acquired Catalyst Advertising.

“We are, as a company, realizing the need to do more than deliver marketing services for our clients to be successful,” Hackney said. “Him coming over is a real step in that direction. What our clients demand is return on investment; they don’t just want marketing service if it doesn’t help their bottom line.”
