Dan Brawley

Executive Director, Cucalorus

As the director of Cucalorus, Brawley has been helping carry out the Cucalorus Film Festival and its many outreach programs.

Brawley is also the president of the Film Festival Alliance.

“Cucalorus is a community building organization with four film festivals, a residency program, a tech conference and enough creative ambition to start a few fires,” Brawley said. “My job is to make sure there is 2-ply in the bathroom and gas in the van.”

Brawley most commonly uses technology for reading and watching about 500 movies a year.

Newspapers and magazines he regularly reads for work or pleasure: MovieMaker, Fast Company, SURFER Magazine, Encore and the StarNews.

Brawley regularly checks websites FilmFreeway and BunnyEars.

His favorite podcast is Behind the Bastards. “It is a wild mix of world politics and comedy,” Brawley said. “They have episodes like ‘Secrets of Osama Bin Laden’s Hard Drive,’ and they dive deep into Saddam Hussein’s work as an erotic novelist.”

Favorite apps include Shazam, SurfChex and Fit Brains Trainer. “I like to know the songs, see the surf and keep my noodle in shape,” Brawley said.

One favorite TV show includes Blacklist.

A movie Brawley recommends is Well Groomed. “Keep an eye out for it this fall at Cucalorus 25. And hide your poodles,” he said.
