Claire Holroyd

CEO & co-founder, Skilly-do

Holroyd uses her experience from producing digital services like the PlayStation Network to run Skilly-do, an online toolkit that promotes early learning through play.

“Because we’re a distributed team building a digital product, tech is essential to my day-to-day,” Holroyd said. “We use G Suite, Google’s cloud and collaboration toolset, for admin goodness and communication. I use Sketch for user experience design, animations and prototyping, iMovie for video editing and MailChimp for our weekly newsletters. Plus, a combination of basic web coding, hosting and CMS solutions to keep our site happy and running.”

A favorite podcast includes Supportedly, produced by an Asheville- based program for entrepreneurs.

“Stephanie and team are dedicated to connecting startup teams with free and low-cost entrepreneurial support programs,” Holroyd said. “Keep an eye out for Supportedly’s Wilmington-focused podcasts this June featuring Skilly-do and UNCW CIE Director Diane Durance.”

Holroyd’s favorite streaming shows include Dead to Me, RuPaul’s Drag Race, Aggretsuko, Tiny Desk Concerts and Big Mouth.

For apps, Holroyd uses Spotify for music, Zillow and Realtor for her “real estate market obsession,” and Flipboard for news.

She recommends following @jenniferhiggie for women’s art and @_whatiftheworld for South African artists.
