The New Hanover County Arboretum, a 7-acre garden oasis at 6026 Oleander Drive, is in the midst of a process that could reshape the landmark.
Through Nov. 2, the county is “soliciting qualification submittals from highly qualified architects to provide complete master plan design services for the NHC Arboretum & NCSU Extension Service campus located at 6206 Oleander Drive in Wilmington,” a bid notice stated. “The master plan will assess the current campus and determine the best way to layout and renovate/replace the existing facilities to efficiently deliver the services provided by the Arboretum and Cooperative Extension.”
The request for qualifications is a source of excitement “about the opportunity to review submitted proposals as part of the RFQ process and eventually work with an external partner to complete a master plan design that will reshape our facility,” said Lloyd Singleton, director of the New Hanover County Cooperative Extension.
“The ultimate goal is to transform the current arboretum space to better serve our visitors and create a facility that offers an overall improved experience,” he said. “We are certainly proud of the work and programs currently taking place here at the arboretum, and we look forward to the chance for innovation and growth in the future.”
