By Sherri Crawford, posted May 17, 2019
A replica of one of Christopher Columbus’ historic ships is now moored in downtown Wilmington.

Modeled after the Santa Maria, the Nao Santa Maria is on display at Port City Marina, 10 Harnett St., through May 19. The Santa Maria was among the three ships Columbus used in 1492.

The replica set sail in 2017 to mark the 525th anniversary of Columbus’ voyage from Spain. It was built in Spain by the Nao Victoria Foundation in 2017 and weighs 200 tons.

Visitors can tour four decks and talk to crew members about their sailing experiencesain, followed by a voyage to the U.S.

Daily tour hours are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for kids (ages 5-10) and $25 for families (two adults and up to three children).

Tickets are available for purchase at the dock, or in advance at Eventbrite.com.
