Recapping This Week's NHRMC Presentations

Three health systems with proposals to buy NHRMC or partner with the county-owned hospital made public presentations this week to the Partnership Advisory Group, which could make its recommendation for a preferred partner to county commissioners by as early as mid-July.
 
Here is a wrap-up of this week's talks:
 
Atrium Health
Charlotte-based Atrium Health, the largest health system in the Carolinas, emphasized the potential to expand its existing relationships with New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Duke Health
Durham-based Duke Health, one of the largest biomedical research enterprises in the country with about $800 million a year in sponsored research support, discussed its reputation and training capabilities.

Novant Health
Winston-Salem-based Novant Health, which has a local presence with Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center in Bolivia and physician group practices throughout Brunswick County, talked about its system size as well as a recent agreement with UNC Health to extends its footprint at NHRMC.

WHAT’S NEXT
• Monday, June 15: Partnership Advisory Group leaders are scheduled to update New Hanover County commissioners on the PAG’s work on finalizing letters of intent with Atrium, Duke and Novant. The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners meeting starts at 9 a.m. Monday and can be watched live at NHCTV.com, Spectrum Channel 13 and Charter Channel 5. "Over the coming weeks, the advisory group will continue its evaluation of the proposals and whether a partnership is in the best interest of healthcare and the community. If the group concludes a partnership is in the community’s best interest, the PAG will then recommend its preferred partner to the Board of Commissioners and NHRMC Board of Trustees by mid-July," a county and NHRMC press release stated Friday.

• Thursday, June 18: The Greater Wilmington Business Journal hosts a Power Breakfast 8-9:30 a.m. about the current deliberations over New Hanover Regional Medical Center. • Thursday, June 18: The 21-member PAG advisory board meets 5:30-7:30 p.m. June 18 and July 7 at UNCW’s Burney Center, with free parking available at Lot M near the Burney Center. Social distancing guidelines will be used. The public also can watch the open portions of the meetings through this Zoom link.
 
• Monday, June 22: A public hearing required by state law is scheduled on all six proposals that were submitted. That will take place at the New Hanover County Historic Courthouse, 24 N. Third St., in room 301. For more details, including in-person and virtual options to watch and how to share comments, click here.
