The Davis Community Proposes Additions

By Cece Nunn and Christina Haley O'Neal, posted Jan 13, 2020
Changes are in the works for The Davis Community, a 53-year-old senior care campus on Porters Neck Road.

Officials want to add a 150-unit independent living development with an additional 32 single-story cottage units consisting of duplexes and triplexes, according to a community meeting notice. The plan also includes a one-story wellness center.

The plan would require a rezoning and special use permit from New Hanover County. The addition is proposed for 20 acres of undeveloped land next to the existing development.

The Davis Community's current 179-bed nursing facility, 123-unit assisted living facility, Champions Assisted Living, detached pharmacy and administrative buildings will remain in use.

Its community center, the oldest portion of the existing facility, is undergoing renovations and a partial rebuild, the notice stated. It will be replaced with a one-story building.

Community meetings will be held at 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Jan. 23 at Wesleyan Chapel UMC Fellowship Hall at 10255 U.S. 17 North in Wilmington.
