NHRMC Earns Award For Stroke Patient Care

By Staff Reports, posted Jul 5, 2019
The American Stroke Association/ American Heart Association recently gave New Hanover Regional Medical Center the association’s Get With The Guidelines Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award.

“The award recognizes a commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines,” according to a news release.

To earn the recognition, NHRMC had to show that it meets specific measures for the diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients, including areas such as evaluating the proper use of medications and other stroke treatments that meet evidence-based guidelines.

“Receiving this recognition for the fourth year in a row is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of the stroke team,” James McKinney, medical director of NHRMC’s Stroke Center, said in a statement.

Officials said that NHRMC also received the association’s Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus award “for meeting quality measures that reduce the time between the patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment,” the release stated.
