About the competition:

MADE: Great Goods from Greater Wilmington

Produced by the Greater Wilmington Business Journal, MADE seeks to honor makers, artisans, small business owners and manufacturers in the tri-county area.

With roots in an economy originally built on tobacco, textiles and furniture, North Carolina is no stranger to the making of things. While its industries may have broadened over the years, the focus on locally made goods continues to hold strong. MADE was created to spotlight some of the innovations occurring in design and manufacturing originating in the tri-county area. Meet the winners at our annual WilmingtonBiz Expo on March 30!

Revitalization of Wilmywood

It is no secret that the Wilmington Film Industry took a big hit when North Carolina cut filmmaking incentives, but we are still here. Wilmington still has the talent, equipment, resources, and capital to be a leading production destination. Please join the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in an open discussion of the Wilmington film industry to address the main question: How can we transform Wilmington into a distinct destination for filmmaking in a shifting production landscape? From incentives to re-launching the Governor's Film Council, leaders will discuss what positive steps are possible to regaining our position in the market.

Top 6 Mistakes Businesses Make in Security

Fluid IT will talk about some very common, and not so common, mistakes that businesses make with their IT security. Some topics that will be discussed are consumer grade products vs enterprise grade, creating standard user policies with employees and guarding your data from attacks.  Small and medium size businesses are at risk just as much, if not more, than large, national businesses for security breaches and IT threats. We hope to provide local business owners with tools that can be implemented within an organization as well as answer questions about your specific business needs.

Leadership, Personal and Organizational Values – What happens when they intersect, merge and collide

Organizational values help guide an organization’s actions and aide its leaders in making decisions. The belief is that when an organization’s members subscribe to a common set of values, the organization is united in dealing with issues and, thus, better prepared to meet its goals. But organizations are made of up individuals who bring their own set of personal values with them to work every day. This seminar will discuss the importance of corporate values, leadership values and the individual personal values of its members (including employees, managers, and other constituents) and what happens when they are all aligned or diverge.
