The Harrelson Center, a campus of nonprofits in Wilmington, has hired Nikki McLaurin as a full-time housing navigation manager, according to a news release.

The position provides a point of contact for low-income individuals and families facing housing challenges, the release stated.

"McLaurin, working one-on-one with clients, will provide case management services to include program referral, housing stabilization, and housing identification with housing sustainability as the program goal," according to the release. "Previously, she worked for Church World Services where she helped secure housing for refugee families in the Wilmington area."

McLaurin earned her HUD housing counselor certification in September 2024 and began her new role April 28, the release stated.

“We are delighted to have Nikki join our staff and provide a full-time contact for neighbors who need assistance in today’s challenging housing market,” said Harrelson Center Executive Director Meade Van Pelt in the release. “Having added housing navigation, we are expanding the wrap-around resources available on our downtown campus to help and guide our neighbors to solutions beyond their own capacities.”

To be eligible to receive Housing Navigation services, the requesting individual or household must:

  • Reside in New Hanover County
  • Currently have housing, either as a renter or homeowner
  • Be referred through the Help Hub or an approved nonprofit or public agency
