Eldercare and AssistedCare at Home recently welcomed Lexi Herring Weldon to the family business.

"As the third generation of the Herring family to join the company, Lexi brings nearly a decade of nursing expertise and passion for patient care to her new role as Home Care RN Liaison," according to a news release.

Founded in 1973 by Carroll Herring, Eldercare at Home has been providing in-home care for Wilmington’s senior community for over 50 years, the release stated.

"Carroll’s vision of compassionate service began in the family’s garage and grew into Wilmington’s first in-home care company," according to the release. "Her son, Russell Herring, carried on her mission, founding AssistedCare in 1994."

AssistedCare at Home's services include developmental disability care, private duty nursing, with Eldercare at Home continuing to specialize in senior home care.

Russell Herring, CEO of AssistedCare and Eldercare at Home, stated in the release, “I am thrilled to welcome my daughter, Lexi, as the newest
member to our team. As a third generation, Lexi brings not only tremendous nursing education and experience, she brings fresh perspectives and innovative ideas. She also has a deep understanding of Eldercare At Home’s rich 50-year legacy in this community. Today marks a significant milestone in our family business journey, bridging our proud past with an exciting future.”

An East Carolina University graduate, Weldon's career began at Duke University Hospital’s Neonatal ICU before transitioning to the operating room at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, where she completed an intensive perioperative training program. She later served as a clinical RN at Wilmington Plastic Surgery while earning her master's degree in nursing education from the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

"I could not be more grateful to join the team of Eldercare at Home. It is a calling to honor and serve those who have paved the way, ensuring dignity and comfort in their golden years," Weldon stated in the release.

Outside of work, Weldon is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and enjoys boating, walking the Loop and spending time with her family.
