Cape Fear Habitat For Humanity Gets Lowe's Grant To Repair Homes

By Staff Reports, posted Nov 5, 2024

Cape Fear Habitat received a $19,750 grant from Lowe's Home Improvement to help with its work on two homes in the Cape Fear region, according to a news release.

As a result, the organization is able to help seniors in the area age in place by completing safe and sustainable critical home repairs, the release stated. In the case of one of the homeowners, an efficiency cottage has replaced her home after Habitat's critical home repair team identified extensive termite and water damage that deemed the house beyond repair.

“We are grateful for Lowe’s continued support of Cape Fear Habitat,” said Christina Ferris, Cape Fear Habitat development director, in the release. “Their dedication to funding both affordable housing and critical home repairs has made a difference in many lives across New Hanover, Pender and Duplin counties.”

The funding from Lowe’s is part of a two-year, $6 million donation to Habitat for Humanity International to support home repair and preservation efforts in owner-occupied homes.

"Through this partnership, more than 75 local Habitat affiliates will complete more than 480 projects this year to address critical health and safety issues in homes across the U.S.," the release stated. "Since 2003, Lowe’s and Habitat have worked together to help more than 18,000 people build or improve a place to call home."
