Local Women's Impact Network Announces Grant Recipients

The Women’s Impact Network of New Hanover (WIN) awarded a total of $60,000 to six organizations
whose projects have a strong environmental impact in the county, according to a news release.

The awards were presented at a celebration ceremony May 16 attended by WIN members and guests. The six grantees include:
  • Cape Fear River Watch: $20,000 for its project, The Burnt Mill Creek Urban Green Space Restoration Plan
  • North Carolina Wildlife Federation: $15,000 for restoring wildlife habitat in underserved communities
  • Alliance for Cape Fear Trees: $8,400 for its project to improve tree survival success in disadvantaged communities
  • Young Scientist Academy: $6,600 for the Youth Cause Initiative
  • Historic Wilmington Foundation: $5,000 for Eagles Island Nature Park Project
  • Plastic Ocean Project: $5,000 for Trees4Trash program and Carbon Capture Study.
According to the release, WIN is a women-powered collective giving circle of more than 100 that provides grants annually to nonprofits whose mission, goals, and projects positively impact New Hanover communities.

Since its start in 2011, WIN has awarded nearly $600,000 in grants to 39 nonprofits. Areas of giving rotate each year between environment, arts and culture, education and health and wellness.
