The UNCW Staff Award for Excellence reception was held at the Burney Center on April 30 to recognize members of the campus community who have excelled in their service to UNCW in the categories of customer service, efficiency and innovation, human relations, outstanding state government service, public service and Spirit of North Carolina, according to a news release.

The 2024 recipient is Andrea Ingle, associate director for student involvement. Ingle is one of 14 individuals and two teams nominated by colleagues.

Chancellor Aswani K. Volety congratulated the honorees.

“Staff are outstanding mentors, advocates and supporters for our students,” said Volety. “Even if you work behind the scenes, out on the grounds or in other areas that don’t directly interact with students, please know that your work still helps them.”

Ingle was nominated in the Spirit of North Carolina category, which honors those who exemplify the state motto “To be, rather than to seem.” The Spirit of North Carolina Award is reserved for exceptional circumstances and for accomplishments and achievements of the highest caliber.

In the nomination letter submitted by Erin Williamson, director of student involvement and leadership for Campus Life and Ingle’s direct supervisor, Ingle was praised for her outstanding leadership and mentorship of her colleagues and students. The letter also includes several endorsements from Ingle’s colleagues and students who have been impacted by her dedication to serving them.

As the Staff Award for Excellence recipient, Ingle receives $1,500, a reserved parking space for a year, a framed certificate and a commemorative clock, and her name has been engraved on the Award for Excellence plaque in Alderman Hall.

Six nominations, including Ingle, were submitted for the Governor’s Award of Excellence, the highest honor bestowed on a state employee. These nominees received a custom engraved gift and will join more than 300 other North Carolina State Employee nominees to potentially be selected as a winner:
