Wilmington City Council member Salette Andrews has been appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) 2024 Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Federal Advocacy Committee.

Andrews was elected to a one-year term and will provide strategic direction and guidance for NLC’s federal advocacy agenda and policy priorities on sustainability, climate change, community resilience, water infrastructure, solid waste management and more, according to a news release. The appointment was announced by NLC President David Sander, mayor of Rancho Cordova, California.

“Environmental sustainability and climate resilience are of particular importance to Wilmington, especially as we navigate the challenges of sea level rise, PFAS contamination and rising energy and insurance costs,” Andrews said in the release.

As a member of NLC’s Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Committee, Andrews will help shape NLC’s policy positions and advocate on behalf of America’s cities, towns and villages before Congress, with the administration and at home, the release stated.

The leadership of this year’s committee will consist of Chair Ruth Grendahl, Councilmember, Apple Valley, Minnesota; Vice Chair Laura Dent, Vice Mayor, Harrisonburg, Virginia; and Vice Chair Brian Jones, Councilmember, Union City, Georgia.
