EmergeOrtho Coastal Region is welcoming two additions to its team as a result of being joined by Bowling Orthopaedics.

The new providers who will begin Oct. 1 are Jack W. Bowling Jr., M.D., a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon and founder of Bowling Orthopaedis, and Ryan Murphy, PA-C, according to a news release.

Bowling has been a trusted local provider for 22 years in his Wilmington practice.

"With extensive experience in minimally invasive joint replacement techniques and a shared commitment to providing personalized patient care, Dr. Bowling's presence and practice strengthen EmergeOrtho's position as a leading provider of comprehensive orthopedic and spine services in the coastal region," the release stated.

A native of Gastonia, Bowling earned his bachelor's degree in zoology, graduating summa cum laude from N.C. State University. He earned his medical degree from Wake Forest University School of Medicine.

After completing his orthopedic residency at Wake Forest University/Baptist Hospital Medical Center in 2000,  Bowling sought to expand his expertise in joint replacement through a fellowship at Central DuPage Hospital/Rush Presbyterian - Saint Luke's Hospital in Chicago, according to the release.

"While highly specialized in total joint replacement of the hip, knee and shoulder, Dr. Bowling has also distinguished himself as a leader in arthroscopy of the knee and shoulder," the release stated. "With 20 years of call coverage in Wilmington, he has gained extensive experience in sports medicine and trauma care, both acute and reconstructive."

The release also stated that Bowling has "embraced robotic surgery for joint replacement, further strengthening EmergeOrtho’s robotics team with his CORI Robotics surgery system certification. The team believes strongly in using all available adjunct tools to ensure the most accurate and safest procedures and leverages robotics to improve bone alignment and soft tissue balancing during knee replacements.

"This approach allows for intraoperative planning using the patient's own knee anatomy and soft tissue tension, resulting in knee replacements that feel and work as close to normal as possible."

Murphy brings "a wealth of experience in emergency and sports medicine, as well as total joint replacement," according to the release.

Murphy earned a degree in biology from the University of North Carolina Greensboro before completing the physician assistant program at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

"We are delighted to welcome Dr. Bowling and Ryan Murphy to EmergeOrtho Coastal Region," said Zachary Welch, executive director of EmergeOrtho Coastal Region. “Their exceptional skills and commitment to patient well-being align perfectly with our mission to provide the highest standard of musculoskeletal care.”

Bowling and Murphy will continue to see patients at 5220 Oleander Drive in Wilmington.
