The Greater Wilmington Business Journal has hired Miriah Hamrick as its newest reporter.

"Adding the talented Miriah Hamrick to our newsroom will enhance our coverage of the Wilmington region, and we're happy to have her on the team," said Cece Nunn, assistant editor.

Hamrick previously worked as a journalist in West Virginia and North Carolina. After graduating from West Virginia University in 2012, she was hired as a staff writer for New South Media, a company that publishes lifestyle and travel magazines. There, Hamrick wrote feature stories showcasing life in West Virginia with a focus on restaurants and hospitality.

After moving to Wilmington in 2014, Hamrick worked as a freelance writer before joining the staff at Lumina News, where she covered county government, education, and environmental issues.

Hamrick is returning to journalism after six years in public education, most recently in the Lyceum program at New Hanover High School.

A former tour guide with Taste Carolina Gourmet Food Tours in Wilmington, Hamrick will cover restaurants and other topics for the Business Journal. Born to a family of restaurateurs, Hamrick has written extensively about food in the past, including an original food blog for WV Living Magazine and freelance coverage of restaurants for Food Network Magazine.
