NourishNC, a Wilmington-based nonprofit organization that aims to meet the needs of children facing food insecurity, recently welcomed Heather Sellgren as its development and communications director, a news release stated.

Sellgren comes to NourishNC from The Children’s Museum of Wilmington, where she most recently served as the executive director. Sellgren brings with her over 20 years of experience in working or volunteering for organizations benefiting children, according to the release.

While at The Children’s Museum, Sellgren "made significant strides in increasing the organization’s presence within the community and improving its financial stability. Her fundraising experience and talent in building community relationships resulted in the support needed to revitalize the Museum’s exhibits, programs and physical space. These efforts have been noticeably recognized by the public and supported by unprecedented attendance numbers," the release stated.

Sellgren was recently honored at Smart Start of New Hanover County’s Children’s Champions Breakfast. She looks forward to working with the NourishNC Team to garner support for and promote the impactful work of providing healthy food to hungry children in our community.

NourishNC recently moved into its new 12,000-square-foot facility at 3606 Market St. in Wilmington.

"This custom-designed facility allows NourishNC to provide nutritious food to more children as efficiently as possible. Their new home quadruples fresh and frozen food storage and doubles their non-perishable storage in support of NourishNC’s programs that fight childhood hunger," the release stated. "In addition, the new facility contains the Market on Market, more affectionately known as ‘The MoM.'  The MoM is a small, free grocery store where food insecure children and their families can choose the foods that are best for them."
