John Downing has been named vice president of Continuing Education at Cape Fear Community College, according to a news release.

Downing's new role with the college began Nov. 1, officials stated in the release.

Downing has served as dean of Continuing Education since April 2018. He joined CFCC as director of Workforce Training and Development in August 2017.

CFCC's Continuing Education programs focus on short-term training for individuals as well as customized training programs for employers, stated the release.

"It's an honor to work at Cape Fear Community College," Downing said in the release. "It's extremely gratifying to me to help people get jobs that pay them a living wage."

Downing has previously served as director of Customized Training for Forsyth Technical Community College and an apprenticeship consultant for the N.C. Department of Labor.

"John and his team have done a terrific job in our Continuing Education division," Jim Morton, CFCC president, said in the release. "He has a wealth of experience and a great enthusiasm for designing and implementing training programs that help citizens of New Hanover and Pender Counties enjoy a better quality of life. He also builds great relationships with our business and industry leaders to ensure we are meeting their training needs. We are very fortunate to have John on our team and look forward to seeing him continue to move our Continuing Education Division forward."
