WIN Awards $58,000 In Grants

By Christina Haley O'Neal, posted Jul 16, 2019
Women’s Impact Network of New Hanover County has awarded grants to five local nonprofit organizations, according to a news release.

A total of $58,000 in grants were awarded during the organization’s annual grants celebration luncheon in May, officials said.

The funds are to “address issues in the realm of health and wellness, WIN’s grant focus for 2019,” stated the release.

Local nonprofit groups MedNorth and NourishNC have each received $24,000 grants.

MedNorth has plans to use the money to enhance services through purchases of blood pressure monitors, car seats, wire loops and a new autoclave, according to the release. For NourishNC, the funds will be used for two programs: its partnership with Nunnelee Pediatric Specialty Clinics to provide 25 meal boxes for patients, and NourishNC's Toddler Tummies program.

A $2,000 grant was awarded to disAbility Resource Center to compile a health and wellness resource guide, stated the release. Smart Start of New Hanover County received a $3,500 grant, which will go toward its Attachment and Bio-Behavioral Catchup Positive Parenting program.

And Wilmington Lions Club will use its $4,500 grant to purchase a tonometer, a tool that will be used by eye care professionals working through community outreach programs, officials said.
