New Hanover County Appoints Interim Chief Communications Officer

By Christina Haley O'Neal, posted Jan 8, 2019
Jessica Loeper has been appointed as New Hanover County's interim chief communications officer.

Loeper has served in the county's communications and outreach department for nearly three years, according to a news release. She was appointed to the role following the departure of Ruth Ravitz Smith, who previously served the CCO role.

“I am excited to lead the communications team, collaborate with our departments who are doing really great things, and promote the county’s mission and services to our residents," Loeper said in the release.

The county's communications and outreach department manages external relations, including media relations, social media, web services, branding and marketing, digital productions and the county’s television station, NHCTV, stated the release.

“I am grateful for Ruth’s contributions to the organization and appreciate her dedication to the county over the past three years,” said County Manager Chris Coudriet. “Ruth and Jessica have worked closely together, so our community and media partners know Jessica and the quality work she does. Her background, communication skills, and ability to build relationships will ensure our community remains informed, engaged and connected to the county’s mission."

Correction: This story has been corrected to reflect that Ruth Ravitz Smith previously served as CCO.
