TD Bank Receives 2018 Tree Award From Wilmington Tree Commission

By Christina Haley O'Neal, posted May 29, 2018
TD Bank received the 2018 Tree Award from the Wilmington Tree Commission in recognition of its commitment to expanding the city's tree canopy through its TD Tree Days and TD Green Streets grant programs.

The award was presented by Mayor Bill Saffo in City Council Chambers at City Hall, according to a news release. A $20,000 grant from TD Green Streets was used to purchase and plant 50 trees, install a water trailer for irrigation, provide training for neighborhood "tree keepers" and support two community events that celebrated the trees and resident volunteer tree keepers.

The trees were planted in April 2017 by volunteers from TD Bank, the Alliance for Cape Fear Trees, the Wilmington Tree Commission, the Cape Fear Garden Club and students from the University of North Carolina Wilmington's Environmental Sciences Department.

Separately, a TD Tree Days grant was awarded to the Alliance for Cape Fear Trees to purchase and plant 40 trees in October 2017 in parks and along street easements in Rankin Terrace and Jervay and in low-income housing communities. The trees were planted by more than 70 volunteers, including regional TD Bank employees.
