Local Startup Selected To Present At NC TECH Conference

By Johanna Cano, posted Jul 22, 2020
Wilmington-based SmartFox Technologies is one of six companies selected to present in the Startup Showcase event at the virtual NC TECH State of Technology conference.
A Wilmington startup will be featured in this week’s NC TECH State of Technology conference, which is being held virtually this year.

SmartFox Technologies, founded by its president Phil Everhart, is one of six startups in the state chosen for the Startup Showcase event in which companies demo and pitch to an audience.

The company has developed the SmartFox Prime application that provides Business Forecast Management, a decision-making tool used to help companies predict future outcomes based on rules, past events and management insight, according to its website.

According to NC TECH, selected startups in the showcase have an innovative product or service that is or has the potential to be a groundbreaking technology in the areas of DATA (analytics/business intelligence, cloud, data science, security and visualization).

Other startups in the event are Collaborations Pharmaceuticals, Protopia and Tango Legal in Raleigh; Floodlight Software in Cary; and Gina Health in Charlotte.

The two-day, virtual conference, on Thursday and Friday, is an opportunity for the new Wilmington startup to introduce itself to a large audience of business and technology leaders.

“This presentation will be an overview of our company and the SmartFox Prime application for an audience of 600-plus technology investors and leaders attending the event,” Everhart said.

SmartFox Technologies was founded in May of 2019, and its application went live in April.

“With over 20-plus years of sales management experience within the technology industry, I used the methodology of Business Forecast Management outside of Salesforce to help my sales teams accurately predict sales forecast for companies,” Everhart said about the origin of the company.

SmartFox has partnered with Salesforce, a customer relationship management software company, which is where the application is available for use.

“Based on my experience in the CRM software industry, I felt building the SmartFox Prime [app] within Salesforce, the industry-leading CRM system provider with 97,000 and more customers, was the right decision and partnership to help as many companies as possible who struggle every day with accurately forecasting sales,” he said.

The startup currently has three employees and will have an additional seven people in sales by the end of the month. Plans are to have its corporate headquarters in Wilmington, Everhart said.

The company’s five-minute presentation will be on Friday. The conference, held virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic, will explore how data is impacting people’s professional and personal lives.

The conference's two keynote speakers are Heidi Lanford, vice president of enterprise analytics and data at Red Hat, and Kerri Patterson, director of technology and clinical decision support at Optum.
