EasyVote Solutions Raises $1.5M, Forms Partnership

By Johanna Cano, posted Oct 16, 2018
EasyVote Solutions, an election management software firm with ties to Wilmington, raised $1.5 million in funding from CoFounders Capital to be used for national expansion of the company.

Along with the funding raise, the virtual company formed a partnership with CoFounders Capital, according to a news release.

A Form D filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Oct. 9 shows the company raised $2.5 million from two investors, however, Charles Davis, EasyVote chief financial officer, said it only raised $1.5 million from CoFounders.

Davis said he is trying to get an explanation on why the Form D shows a different amount.

David Gardner, managing partner at CoFounders, will join EasyVote’s board of directors.

"Beyond great technology and loyal customers, we seek exceptional management teams passionately driven by a worthy mission...for EasyVote that mission is helping cities, counties and states run successful elections," said Gardner in the release.

EasyVote wanted someone with Gardner’s expertise to join the board, said Davis.

“The experience that David Gardner has had in helping software companies grow is going to be valuable for us in growing into the next level,” Davis said. “They are going to help us manage that growth and we will grow more wisely using that capital.”

EasyVote provides software that helps cities, counties and states with running elections. Some of the assistance it provides includes managing poll workers and managing the transfer of voting machines from location to location, Davis said.

CoFounders Capital is a Cary-based fund focused on software ventures and is managed by Gardner.

EasyVote currently works with more than 150 election offices in 10 states. It primarily provides services in Southeastern states such as Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia.

The money raised will help the company with its efforts to expand up to the Northwest and the rest of the country, Davis said.

EasyVote has origins in Wilmington at the University of North Carolina Wilmington Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

“EasyVote had ties to Wilmington from the beginning,” Davis said.

The company mostly runs virtually, with Davis working from Wilmington, but it does have a development team in Atlanta and a sales team in Texas.

Charles Davis, along with his brother Ron Davis, founded EasyVote in 2015. The brothers also founded SIVAD Business Solutions, a technology solutions company based in Wilmington in 2009.

“We are excited to be with such a quality group at CoFounders,” Davis said. “We continue to be excited for our clients and give them the additional tools they need to help them run elections.”
