ExitEvent To Power Down

By Staff Reports, posted Oct 20, 2017
Raleigh-based ExitEvent, which covered stories about startups in North Carolina including in Wilmington and held a sales event locally, is shutting down, officials announced recently, adding that some of its content and events will live on with other partnerships.

The outlet, owned by Capitol Broadcasting Co., formed in 2011.

In April, ExitEvent and RevBoss, held a SalesJam training event in Wilmington.
ExitEvent will stop providing news coverage in November, officials said. Its entrepreneur socials, which in the past also have included stops in Wilmington, are expected to continue through the rest of the year with updates in 2018.

“Over the past four years, ExitEvent’s expanded coverage of the startup scene around North Carolina has furthered our region’s position as a top startup hub.

“We believed this quality content would position ExitEvent for a sustainable, if not break even operation, but after nearly four years of trying that has not materialized. This is the challenge of operating a niche media site focused on local storytelling,” stated a post on ExitEvent’s website.

Its coverage will merge into WRAL TechWire, also owned by Capitol Broadcasting Co., said ExitEvent editor Laura Baverman. She added that its events also will move to some combination of between TechWire and Durham’s American Underground.
