Finalists Announced For NC Tech Awards

By Vince Winkel, posted Sep 15, 2016
Wilmington’s technology sector is making news across the state.

Finalists for the NC Tech Awards were been announced Thursday by the N.C. Technology Association (NCTA). The trade association's awards program recognizes companies, organizations and individuals that have achieved outstanding innovation and leadership throughout the year.

Five Wilmington outfits made the final cut:

nCino – nCino created the cloud-based banking industry after it was launched by Live Oak Bank in Wilmington. The word nCino is a variant of "encino," which is Spanish for live oak.

KWIPPED – This is a growing community marketplace for industry to locate, discover and rent specialized equipment for commercial applications. Kwipped is a short, slang term meaning equipped. (Note: The founder and CEO of KWIPPED is also a co-owner of the Greater Wilmington Business Journal and WILMA magazine.)

Lapetus Solutions – Lapetus Solutions is a science and technology growth company dedicated to creating products and services based on the prediction of life events.

Likeli – Likeli uses social media histories and actions within the app to create a psychometric profile of its users. The mobile app will then connect people with what they’re looking for whether that’s a date, a soul mate or just a friend.

Performance Culture – This Wilmington-based outfit created a web-based performance management system that utilizes the Performance Values Matrix for employee coaching and evaluation.

“There is another great mix of finalists this year from across the state, so we expect an exciting evening celebrating North Carolina’s vibrant tech sector,” said Brooks Raiford, president and CEO of the N.C. Technology Association in a news release Thursday.

After a nomination period earlier this summer, finalists and winners were chosen in a two-stage review process, led by the accounting firm Cherry Bekaert, in partnership with an independent selection committee. The final awards will be handed out at the NC Tech Awards Gala on Nov. 10, at the Raleigh Convention Center.
