Farmin' On Front Announces Opening Date

By Vicky Janowski, posted Nov 15, 2016
Farmin’ on Front is slated to open its doors Friday, company officials announced Tuesday.

Renovations have been underway for months to transform a former vintage clothing retail space into a 6,000-square-foot grocery store at 143 N. Front St.

“Admittedly, the process took longer than expected, but I believe our downtown base will be most pleased with the wait,” Farmin’ Brands President Ben Long said in a news release Tuesday. “I am personally excited what the addition of Farmin’ on Front to the explosion of quality businesses and venues in downtown Wilmington will mean for the growth of our city’s historic district.”

Farmin’ Brands former retail location, a larger store called Carolina Farmin’ at 2101 Market St., closed in 2013 as the company focused operations on its wholesale division from its facility on Emerson Street.

Details of the soon-to-open market in downtown Wilmington include a “wine cellar, full-service meats, u-snip herb wall, fresh-catch seafood, walk-in beer barn, glass-bottle milk dispenser, diverse sweets and growler bottle fill-up,” according to the release.

Company officials also stressed that local products would be part of the inventory at the new store, which they describe as an urban food market.

“… the team to facilitate the new market’s experience is now in place with a shared commitment of bridging producer to consumer relationship of our regional food system,” said Randall Heath, Farmin’ Brand’s senior director of brand experience.
