Mayfaire Brings In Toy Store Focused On Development

By K.J. Williams, posted May 28, 2010

Brilliant Sky Toys & Books, coming to Mayfaire Town Center in August, targets child development products.

The store features thousands of products that encourage productive play and enhance the cognitive, emotional and physical needs of children, according to a news release.

The Michigan-based franchise has 11 locations in seven states, including a Charlotte store. The future Wilmington store is owned by husband and wife Mike and Annika Bixby.

“As local residents and parents, we are so excited to be able to fill a void in this market and offer developmentally sound playthings and events that will bring families together to learn and play,” Annika Bixby said.

The 3,000-square-foot store will be designed to complement the products for sale, with an exploratory atmosphere, including custom fixtures and low sightlines.

Items for sale will include books, games and toys, with themes ranging from science and nature to arts and crafts to outdoor activities to dolls.

In the fall, Mayfaire will add another eatery to its offerings.

Happy Days Diner, will provide a range of affordable dishes in a 1950s atmosphere.

For desert, diners can order from the soda fountain bar with ice cream treats, Italian gelato or baked items. The diner will be located next to Mayfaire 16 Cinemas.

The diner is the latest creation of Wilmington restaurateur Ash Aziz, who’s restaurants include Boca Bay, Circa 1922, The Brasserie, Osteria Cicchetti and Grand Union Pub.
