Feast Down East will host its 11th annual Local Food Conference from March 5-6. This year’s event will be held virtually, with chef, author and TV personality Vivian Howard delivering the keynote address.
Feast Down East aims to bring together those in the community working to support and grow the local food system in Southeastern North Carolina. The annual conference is a gathering of farmers, fishermen, food retailers and establishments, foodies, advocates and community leaders to discuss the issues each are facing and strengthen the relationships between them.
This year’s virtual workshop topics include agricultural and gardening techniques, cooking demonstrations and the policy work of local food councils and non-profit organizations that are trying to combat food insecurity.
The first 100 people to purchase a ticket receive a Conference in a Box, which includes beer from Wrightsville Beach Brewery, a custom FDE Freaker and merchandise from local businesses, a $150+ value. Participants must be 21 or older to receive the box, and ID must be presented at pickup.
The first 25 people to purchase a ticket receive a signed copy of Vivian Howard’s new cookbook, This Will Make It Taste Good: A New Path to Simple Cooking, along with their box.
Participants will also have the option to add on a Local Lunch Box to their ticket, which will provide all the ingredients necessary to cook at home alongside chef Dean Neff in a virtual demonstration to be held Saturday, March 6.
