Wrightsville Beach Brewery will host LagerFest 2019 in its outdoor beer garden from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday.

The festival will showcase lagers from a dozen local breweries, including Skytown and Salty Turtle, two newcomers to the event. 

“We’ve had an excellent local response again this year,” said Wrightsville Beach Brewery owner Jud Watkins. “Especially considering it takes five to six weeks to brew lagers and they aren’t as easy to make as something like an IPA.”

In addition to the local breweries, Watkins invited brewers from across the state, such as Deep River Brewing Company and Southern Pines Brewing Company, that he feels consistently produce outstanding lagers.

Each brewing company will serve two lagers, and for $35, ticketholders will receive unlimited samples and a giant soft pretzel. 

Wrightsville Beach Brewery, 6201 Oleander Drive, will be serving a special edition dry hopped version of its best selling Piping Plover Pilsner and offering a sneak peak of its Oktoberfest as well. 

“Because there are so many styles within the style, there will be tons of variety among the lagers served,” Watkins said. 

Wrightsville Beach Brewery donates 11% of proceeds from its revolving Beer of the Month to a different non-profit partner each month, and representatives from this month’s benefactor, Switchin’ Gears, will be on-site to provide information about the organization.

Nathan Kornegay and L Shape Lot will provide musical entertainment throughout the afternoon.

“We try to stack the festival with not only great beer but great local talent as well,” Watkins said.

Watkins said this event did sell out in advance last year but tickets are still available online.
