Steve Urias, district manager for Islands Fresh Mex Grill, has announced that a Leland location will soon be under construction at 2013 Olde Regent Way, in the spot formerly occupied by Gusto Grille.

“Our customers have always requested a Leland location and there really is nothing else like us there,” Urias said. “So that being said, I think we’ll do really well there.”

Islands owner Lucas Jones opened his first location in the Port City 11 years ago. There are currently four in operation, with the Leland location slated to be the fifth.

Urias also confirmed that the Islands at 7032 Market St. will be closing by late summer–early fall because the building has been sold.

According to Urias, the company has secured a new 8,000-square-foot location in Ogden Plaza at 6838 Market St., and construction is currently underway for what will be the largest of the Islands locations.

Given its size, the Ogden Plaza restaurant will serve as the company’s catering hub and will also include a large bar area, a children’s play area and a room for private events.

The Market Street location will stay open until the new location is completed, sometime during the fall.

In the Leland location transaction, Gary Ochsner of Maus, Warwick, Matthews & Co. represented Islands Fresh Mex Grill, and Turner Schaeffer and Hansen Matthew, also of Maus, Warwick, Matthews & Co., represented the landlord, Branch Properties.
