A new eatery has opened at Mayfaire Town Center and more are on the way to the area.

Playa Bowls, a restaurant that specializes in customized acai and pitaya (dragon fruit) bowls, held a grand opening earlier this month at its location next to Chipotle.

And in some of the latest restaurant news for Mayfaire: First Watch, a Florida-based breakfast, brunch and lunch restaurant is set to start serving customers by next year at Mayfaire Town Center.

Mayfaire’s specialty leasing manager and marketing director, Paige Coniglio, confirmed that the new 3,500-square-foot eatery is expected to be built in the former Macaroni Grill location on International Drive and is expected to open by summer 2020.

First Watch’s menu offers both traditional and innovative items prepared with farm fresh ingredients. Popular items include avocado toast, smoked salmon eggs benedict, breakfast tacos, quinoa power bowls and lemon ricotta pancakes. With an emphasis on healthy offerings and high quality ingredients, the restaurant serves organic greens, house-roasted vegetables, cage-free eggs and house-made granola.

The restaurant will be operated by VIM Holdings, which operates several First Watch locations in the Triangle area. The Wilmington location is part of a six-year plan to open additional locations in Fayetteville, Jacksonville, Greenville and New Bern.

Representatives from First Watch said the new restaurant will be the first to showcase the company’s latest interior design, which combines farm fresh elements with a high-energy, urban vibe.

“We are elated that First Watch chose Mayfaire Town Center as their first Coastal North Carolina location,” said Kurt Bohlmann, general manager of Mayfaire. “It’s an exciting time for Mayfaire to be redeveloping the former Macaroni Grill pad. First Watch will bring something fresh and new to the merchandise mix.”

A location of the bakery Breadsmith is on its way to Mayfaire Town Center. Meanwhile, two other restaurants serving breakfast, brunch and lunch are also slated to open in the Mayfaire area: Another location of Drift Coffee & Kitchen, in the former Starbucks spot at Mayfaire Town Center, and Brunches, in the former Positalia location at Mayfaire Community Center.

Drift and Brunches are expected to open by late summer.
