Symposium Restaurant & Bar at Mayfaire Town Center in Wilmington is now Symposium Greek Taverna with a new menu.

Chef and owner George Papanikolaou opened the restaurant at 890 Town Center Drive, next to the Regal Mayfaire Stadium 16 movie theater, in February. Papanikolaou and his family also operate The Greeks at 5120 S. College Road in Monkey Junction.

Yanni Papanikolaou, George’s son, said that the changes were based upon customer feedback.

“Customer feedback is one of the most important things in the industry,” Yanni Papanikolaou said. “And our customers were requesting more traditional Greek dishes.”

While the original menu did contain Greek specialties, it also contained a mixture of Mediterranean preparations created by chef George.

Yanni Papanikolaou said the new menu offers more variety and is more approachable. It contains a variety of slow-braised meats, including lamb, beef, pork and Greek meatballs, as well as beef kabobs, lamb Souvlaki and gyro platters served with salad, Greek potatoes, pita bread and tzatziki sauce. There are also some new salads and seafood dishes and avgolemono, a traditional Greek chicken soup.

“Like many area businesses, Hurricane Florence had an impact on us,” Yanni Papanikolaou said. “So it was the natural evolution of things after passing the six-month mark and recovering from the storm, to reshape the menu around what our customers were most interested in.”

Throughout the holiday season, Symposium will also be offering homemade Greek pastries and cookies, sold individually as well as by the box.

Symposium Greek Taverna is open daily at 4 p.m. A private dining area is available, as well as outdoor patio seating.
