Symposium Restaurant and Bar is now open at 890 Town Center Drive in Mayfaire Town Center, next to the Regal Mayfaire Stadium 16 movie theater.

The restaurant is owned and operated by chef George Papanikolaou and his family, who also operate The Greeks at 5120 S. College Road in Monkey Junction.

Yanni Papanikolaou, George’s son, described the new venture as a departure from The Greeks in that the focus of the food will lean more toward fine dining than fast casual.

The menu includes regionally sourced meats and seafood in classic Greek and Mediterranean preparations created by chef George. Many of the recipes were collected throughout his career in Europe before coming to Wilmington in 2011.

“Symposium will definitely reflect the way people eat in Europe, where farm-to-table has always been the way,” Yanni Papanikolaou said. “Everything local, always fresh, and made to order.”

In addition to the lunch and dinner menus, diners will find daily specials, a full bar, and a selection of Greek wines chosen to complement the fare. A private dining area is available, as well as outdoor patio seating.
