Bombers Bev Co., founded in September 2014 by Caleb Churchwell, Jacob Wright and Zach Boylston, has been purchased by husband and wife team, Kyle Harshner and Sunni Holley.

Harshner and Holley have been patrons of the downtown Wilmington shop, at 108 Grace St., since its opening, and Harshner has been working for Bombers since April. When the couple found out the business was for sale, they decided to purchase it with the idea that they would maintain the store’s original concept.

“We’ll be keeping up the standards of stewardship: tasty craft brews, giving back to our community, and giving you a place to unwind,” the couple stated in a Nov. 9 Facebook post announcing their ownership. “We are grateful to start this new phase surrounded by positivity and creativity.”

Harshner and Holley closed the bottle shop Nov. 12 for minor renovations, including new paint for the floors and walls, and new lighting. They plan to re-open by this coming weekend.

“Our target date is Thursday, Nov. 30, but we will be open by Friday for sure,” Holley said.

Holley said that the shelves of beer and wine have been moved to the back of the shop, making more room at the front for a lounge area with sofas and chairs.

“This will be comfortable area for people to relax if they don’t feel like sitting at the bar,” Holley said.

Bombers will continue to carry a wide variety of craft beer, as well as a larger selection of wine. Four new taps will be installed, all designed to be dedicated to local breweries.

With numerous hotel rooms within walking distance, the couple said they enjoy meeting visitors who stop in and are looking for a bottle of wine or beer to take back to their rooms. They also enjoy being a walkable destination for those who live downtown and might not want to have to drive into town.

Harshner and Holley will continue to host a variety of events at Bombers, including tastings, wine education classes, live music and comedy nights. Follow them on Facebook or Instagram for updates on new products, specials and events.
