There seems to be no end to the Port City’s love of doughnuts, as two more establishments dedicated to the treat have opened their doors in the past week.

Duck Donuts, a shop that originated in the Outer Banks, opened at 6801 Parker Farm Drive in the Mayfaire Community Center. The store offers made-to-order doughnuts, allowing customers to create their own confections from a list of icings and toppings.

Customers can watch the vanilla cake doughnuts being made and create any flavor combinations they wish to top them off. For those who like suggestions, there is a list of favorite combinations to choose from, including: French toast, Strawberry Lemonade and Coconut Island Bliss.

The shop also offers a self-serve coffee bar with four flavors of hot coffee as well as iced coffee and tea.

One area of town that has fewer doughnut options is downtown, and that is where Danny Tangredi, owner of Wake N Bake Donuts in Carolina Beach, has opened his second location at 114-A Princess St. The carryout-only Wake N Bake location downtown is currently open 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Tangredi said the shop will be begin opening on Saturday and Sunday in the coming weeks, and he is also exploring the possibility of late-night hours on the weekends.

To provide enough doughnuts to both locations, Tangredi has moved the daily baking operations to an off-site commercial kitchen in Carolina Beach.

“We have a brand new truck that will bring the doughnuts from the commercial kitchen to both locations, several times a day if necessary,” Tangredi said.

Customers can expect to find pretty much the same flavors at both locations, he said.
