Though N.C. Craft Beer month has just ended, beer lovers need not worry. American Craft Beer Week (May 16-22) is just around the corner, and Bombers Bev Co. has put together a two-day festival of craft beer along the banks of the Cape Fear River.

The festival kicks off May 13 with the Bombers Rare Beer Experience. The event will highlight rare specialty beers, many of which will be released for the very first time in North Carolina.

“This event is designed for the beer connoisseur with a developed palate who is really looking for the next level of beer,” said Bombers co-owner Jacob Wright.

The gathering is limited to 300 ticketholders and will be held on the event lawn of the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce.

May 14 brings The Beer Vacation, at which a wider variety of breweries will sample their beers at the Wilmington Convention Center. Wright says many of them will showcase their core brands as well as new seasonal products in a fun, beach-like atmosphere.

“We’ve been attending beer festivals for years now, and we really wanted to put together one of our own that embodies all the attributes of a great festival,” said Wright, who organized the festival with Bombers co-owner Caleb Churchwell. “We’ve worked really hard to put something together that would be of the caliber that we would want to attend and make this the very best we could.”

A portion of the proceeds from the festival will benefit WARM, Wilmington Area Rebuilding Ministries, a local nonprofit that organizes volunteers and raises funds to complete safety-related urgent home repairs and accessibility upgrades for low-income homeowners in Brunswick, New Hanover and Pender counties. Port City Brew Bus, a sponsor of the festival, will offer free taxi rides through a local cab company following Saturday’s event.
