Now in its second month of operation, Reds Cookin’ is serving up breakfast and lunch in Wrightsboro.

The Wrightsboro area has seen quite a bit of growth within the past year, from new residential construction to the opening of several new restaurants. Broadway, an Italian eatery specializing in sandwiches and salads opened just weeks ago at 2520 Castle Hayne Road and a second location of Flaming Amy’s Bowl is set to open by month’s end at 3224 N. College Road, not long after Flaming Amy's launched a Carolina Beach location.

It was just a year ago that Reds co-owners, Aimee and Bruce Fowler and Andrew Buffalino, opened Little Buffalo Pizza Shop, just steps away from the new restaurant.

“We had a great customer base already from Little Buffalo,” Buffalino said. “And this was an opportunity to offer something that we felt the area was lacking.”

Buffalino, who heads up Reds' kitchen, says the menu is composed of home-style favorites designed to please the whole family. An extensive breakfast menu includes scratch-made biscuits, stone ground grits, pancakes, French toast, and a variety of omelettes, breakfast sandwiches and combination plates. The chef’s breakfast specials include a stuffed French toast with smoked ham, Swiss and cheddar cheeses, topped with powdered sugar; and a breakfast bowl with grits, hash browns, bacon, sausage and two sunny side up eggs, topped with cheese.

Some of the most popular lunch plates thus far, says Buffalino, are the country- fried steak and meatloaf. Each lunch plate is served with two sides. In addition to traditional sides such as mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese, Buffalino prepares fresh vegetables each day.

“I’ve really been surprised how well customers have responded to the veggie dishes,” said Buffalino, who sources all of his produce and meats locally.

The lunch menu is also stocked with burgers, sandwiches, hot dogs, soups and salads. The menu also offers meals for kids and for seniors. When spring arrives, Reds will begin serving hand-spun milkshakes and soft-serve ice cream.

Reds Cookin’ is at 2539 Castle Hayne Road and is open Monday-Friday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Breakfast is served daily until 11 a.m.
