With warmer weather comes the reopening of many favorite local spots known for their summertime treats.

The Ice Cream Float was spotted this past weekend in the Azalea Festival parade and is gearing up to cruise the Intracoastal Waterway in the areas of Wilmington, Scotts Hill, Hampstead, Topsail Island, Figure Eight Island and Wrightsville Beach. Owner Jameson Holmes said he would be watching the boat traffic, and as soon as it picks up he will set sail.

“We will definitely be out for Memorial Day but hope to get out there even sooner if the boat traffic picks up and the weather is warm,” Holmes said.

The Original Ice Cream Stand in Wrightsville Beach is open 1-9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 1-10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday now through Memorial Day. Hours will then extend to noon-11 p.m. daily.

Owner Kane Anderson says the shop, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, will accept credit cards for the first time this season.

“We expect a banner year this year,” Anderson said. “Tourism seems to be up so far for April, so that’s a good sign.”

Kohl’s Frozen Custard of Wrightsville Beach opened last month and is currently open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Hours will expand to 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week after Memorial Day.

Britt’s Donuts, the famed Carolina Beach doughnut shop, is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday through Memorial Day when it will open seven days a week.

Squigley’s Ice Cream, also of Carolina Beach, is now open weekends as well through Memorial Day. Island Ice Factory, specializing in homemade ice cream, is also now open with limited hours.
