A Tasting Room To Launch Online Wine Club

By Jessica Maurer, posted Jan 21, 2015
A Tasting Room is just days away from launching its online wine club and delivery service.

“We want people to see what’s new in wine and to be able to learn more about it by tasting a variety of well made, small production wines,” co-owner Michael Bevacqua said.

Owners Bevacqua and Anthony Palermo are putting a new spin on traditional business models. Unlike larger retailers, A Tasting Room is not concerned with introducing customer to a wine and then running out of it due a limited allocation. Bevacqua and Palermo would rather have customers try something new on a regular basis.

“We really look at the wine business from a whole different perspective,” Bevacqua said. “We want to introduce our customers to wines they’ve never tasted before, small production wines you won’t find in the supermarkets or even some of the local wine shops.”

In addition to exposure to hard-to-find labels, the wine club offers the convenience of online shopping.  The Basic Wine Club Membership ($25 per month) includes two bottles of high-quality, small-production wine with tasting notes and 10 percent discount on all purchases. The Premium Wine Club Membership ($45 per month) includes two bottles of premium-quality, small-production wine with tasting notes and a 15 percent discount on all purchases. Both memberships include free local delivery.

The partners have also started a JUMPSTART program to help them raise capital for a retail store. Bevacqua and Palermo envision a comfortable, casual space where they can host tastings and community events and are counting on club memberships and personal contributions from customers to help them reach that goal.

“People in the community know us and know our passion for the business,” Bevacqua said. “We want to connect with the community and put a fresh spin on retail wine and beer.”

As they await the final permitting to begin selling online, A Tasting Room is in the process of scheduling Pop-Up Tastings with local caterers and event spaces in the Wilmington area.
