Owners Kristy Gomez and Mike Duffy are bringing a new kind of craft beer bottle shop to midtown Wilmington. Hey! Beer Bottle Shop will be a "to-go only" retail store offering a variety of craft beer from around the globe.

“While we can't offer customers the chance to sit down and have a drink with us at this location, our goal is to become a destination for fans of craft beer to find their next favorite bottle,” Gomez said.

Located at the corner of Wrightsville and Kerr avenues, Hey! Beer Bottle Shop will offer nearly 400 beers, organized by style.

“The number of brewers that are out there can be a bit intimidating at times, especially for anyone just getting into the craft beer scene,” Gomez said. “Our hope is that keeping similar styles and flavors together will allow our customers to discover different breweries that they might not be aware of.”

The bottle shop will also feature a number of four packs and six packs and four growler lines. Hey! Beer will offer a 10 percent discount on mixed six packs and 15 percent discount on eight packs.

Gomez and Duffy met in Los Angeles in the accounting department of the 2009 film Star Trek. After frequently being apart as they worked on film productions, the couple decided to relocate and pursue a business based on their mutual interest in craft beer. Gomez, whose first film credit was the TV series Dawson's Creek, suggested Wilmington.

“We came to visit and quickly realized that Wilmington was the perfect location for us,” Duffy said. “It really has a great mix of city and small town. It is also an extremely beer-savvy city. There's a sophistication level here regarding beer that's palpable. You see it in the draft lists around town and the number of breweries opening up in the area. That raised awareness regarding beer really opens the door for a place like Hey! Beer.”

Hey! Beer Bottle Shop is planning a late January opening and will be located at 4405 Wrightsville Ave., Suite A.
