The George on the Riverwalk, at 128 S. Water St., is celebrating its 10th anniversary with some special events throughout the month of October. Opened in 2004 by George Coffin, The George offers brunch, lunch and dinner with a view of the Cape Fear River.

Starting this month the riverside restaurant will offer a new vegan and gluten-free menu with items as vegetable spring rolls, stuffed zucchini boats, and penne à la avocado. Several dishes will be highlighted this weekend during Riverfest and the full menu will be available beginning Oct. 7.

“We’ve been creating these dishes for our customers with special dietary needs for a while now upon request,” executive chef Larry Fuller said. “So we decided that it was time to put together a full menu for them in order for them to have as many options as possible on any given day.”

The restaurant is participating in several events as part of this weekend’s Riverfest. The 4th annual Stand-Up Paddle Race on the Cape Fear River will begin Saturday at 10 a.m. from The George's private dock. The eatery will serve brunch from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and customers can take in all the action from the riverfront patio. Later that night it will serve dinner and drinks, along with a prime view of the fireworks.

October drink features include seasonal brews Big Boss Harvest Time, Blue Moon Harvest Pumpkin and Carolina Brewing Company Oktoberfest as well as Snickerdoodle and Pumpkin Pie Martinis.

On Oct. 26 The George will host a customer appreciation reception in honor of its 10th anniversary. Customers will be treated to a variety of complimentary appetizers 3-6:30 p.m.
