A downtown Wilmington restaurateur who at one point ran three eateries on Front Street has closed another one of his spots.

Nick’s Diner, 127 N. Front St. remained shuttered Friday, with paper covering the windows.

When contacted about the status of the restaurant earlier this week, owner Harry Pallas said Tuesday that he was not yet ready to release a statement on the future of the business. Calls placed to Pallas since that time have not been returned.

News of Nick’s Diner’s closing spread this week among employees. “This is the end for Nick’s Diner, my friends, It’s been a fun run,” former manager Brandon Sebastian Angelilli posted on the restaurant’s Facebook page.

The restaurant opened in 2011.

In an interview last year with the Business Journal, Pallas described Nick’s Diner, along with his other downtown restaurants Smoke and Dirty Harry’s Burrito and Juice Bar, as family operations, run with his wife, Kelly, and sister Maureen Pallas.

Dirty Harry’s, 34 N. Front St., which opened in the fall of 2013, was open and operating Friday.

Smoke, a 250-seat barbecue restaurant at 21 N. Front St., opened in early 2013 but closed that same year. Since then, the space has been subdivided into spaces for other restaurants and small shops.

Harry Pallas owned a Nick’s Diner in Cleveland before deciding to move south with his family and reinvent the restaurant in downtown Wilmington. Smoke grew from numerous Nick’s customers asking Pallas where they could find barbecue downtown, and Harry’s resulted from downtown’s lack of quick-service, Mexican food, Pallas said the interview with the Business Journal last year.
