Renovations are now complete at Katy's Grill and Bar, 1054 S. College Road.

Under new owners Jerry Allen and Kelly Baucom, the 3,500-square-foot eatery has a fresh look, with new front deck and remodeled dining area and bar, complete with new windows to add light and ranks of new high-definition televisions tuned to sports events. A new sign out front contains both the Katy's and the Jerry Allen monikers.

Wilmington restaurant veteran Katy Monaghan sold this, her last remaining business, to Allen and Baucom earlier this year, when she decided to retire after 40 years in the restaurant business. In addition to running Katy’s for 30 years, Monaghan was an owner of The Original Salt Works on Oleander Drive and helped to create the Causeway Café in Wrightsville Beach.

“I've really retired, and it feels great,” Monaghan said recently. “I figured if I could make it to the 30-year mark with Katy’s I would be ready to take it easy.”

Allen is one of Monaghan's former employees. He worked at Katy’s as a dishwasher and bartender during the late 1980s and early 1990s while attending University of North Carolina Wilmington. He and Baucom, his business partner, also own Jerry Allen’s Sports Bar and Grill in Wrightsville Beach. Allen is a co-owner of Robert’s Market as well.

Katy’s menu will stay, but Allen and Baucom plan to merge it with the Jerry Allen’s Sport Bar menu, Allen said.

“We want to keep Katy's going for another 30 years,” Allen said.
