A popular Georgia-based fast-food chicken chain will soon be adding a new eatery along the city’s comeback corridor.
Zaxby’s submitted plans Wednesday with the Wilmington Development Services Department to construct a 3,847-square-foot restaurant on a 0.80-parcel at 3913 Oleander Drive.
The vacant lot is currently under contract with Wilmington-based Cape Fear Commercial.
Hank Miller III, senior vice president with Cape Fear Commercial whose family owns the parcel, represents the landlord. Cody Cress and Tyler Pegg, founder and co-founder of Wilmington-based The CRESS Group of Coldwell Banker Commercial Sun Coast Partners, represented Zaxby’s.
Cress said officials plan to close on the property pending city approval.
Plans call for the future Zaxby’s to include a drive-thru, inside dining and 27 parking spaces, according to documents filed with the city.
If approved, the pending Oleander Drive location would be New Hanover County’s third Zaxby’s, one of which company officials are reopening after a nine-month closure.
Zaxby’s will reopen its 4409 S. 17th St. location -- closed last April -- under new management, according to a company news release.
Licensee James Souter, along with his business partner Rod McLeod, will now operate the 17th Street location.
Cress and Pegg with The CRESS Group represented Zaxby’s during the long-term lease agreement for an undisclosed amount, while Ginny Hollingsworth of Wilmington represented the landlord.
A grand opening for the existing location is planned for Jan. 20, the news release said.
“We are excited to be opening the 17th Street Zaxby’s location and have been working diligently to renovate the interior of the restaurant with new computer software, kitchen equipment and dining décor to provide an excellent dining experience to Wilmington residents,” Souter said in a news release. “As new licensees of this location, we look forward to providing the superior quality of food and service Zaxby’s is known for.”
Headquartered in Athens, Ga., Zaxby’s offers prepared-at-order chicken fingers, wings, sandwiches and salads.
