A plan for homes on South College Road property could add some more affordable options to the area.

Wilmington-based Herrington Classic Homes is looking at building a neighborhood with 40 lots for single-family homes.

The neighborhood would be called Jasmine South and involves about 5 acres at 4606, 4618 and 4626 South College Road.

The homebuilder plans to make a conditional rezoning request for the property, which is currently zoned R-15 residential, said Craig Johnson, one of the owners of Herrington Classic Homes.

If granted, the conditional rezoning would allow for more density, Johnson said.

While exact home prices in the proposed Jasmine South have not yet been determined, Johnson said, "We’re just looking to provide affordable homes for the community."

Herrington Classic Homes, through its entity River Birch Investments LLC, is holding a community meeting on the proposal via Zoom at 6 p.m. June 29 where those interested can find out more about the project. The Zoom link is available online.

In addition to the 40 lots, site plans for Jasmine South included with the community meeting notice show a dog park, open space and a stormwater pond.
