An active senior living community with an emphasis on “going coastal” is proposed to be developed by 2020, officials with the community said Friday.
 
Trinity Landing Active Senior Living Community, an age 62-and-older community, is slated to be developed on 50-acres of land off Masonboro Loop Road along the Intracoastal Waterway, according to Ann Pressly, director of Marketing and Sales. The community is having a ceremony, hosted by the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce next week.
 
The community set to be developed at 5015 Masonboro Loop Road, is proposed to consist of 220 units to include both apartments and villas that range between 900 and 1,900 square feet. That mix will have one and two-bedroom housing with dens, a full kitchen, walk-in showers, high-end furnishings and an outdoor living space.

“It is going to be a wonderful lifestyle ... It's going to be a home-like feel. There is a greater need in the Wilmington community because of the fact that more retirees are moving to New Hanover County. So for folks that want to live on the water, this is a great opportunity," Pressly said.

About 70 new jobs are going to be created because of the new community, Pressly said, adding that a range of staff will be needed to run the community, including housekeepers, maintenance workers, dining staff, personal trainers and day spa workers.
 
The community touts resort-like living with a variety of amenities to include a boat dock, boat slips, clubhouse, walking trails and a park.

About 280 people are currently on the waiting list for Trinity Landing, Pressly said.

The community has opened a welcome center at 5215 Junction Park Circle and will be working there for the next two years until the project is developed. The development's groundbreaking is slated for early 2019.

"What we are doing right now for marketing efforts, we are having two marketing events a month and we are in a priority deposit phase right now to get names on the list for the next phase, to pick your home," she said, adding that the process of home selection could begin by August or September.

The community is inspired by Lutheran Services Carolinas, which was given 30 acres of the property and purchased another 20 acres in the 1980s, to make up the 50-acre developable tract. Trinity Landing residents will be connected to and have priority access to the 100-bed 5-star skilled nursing facility Trinity Grove, a Lutheran Services Carolinas rehabilitation and health care center just down the road, she said.

Pressly said the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce will host its ribbon cutting for the new business - and new chamber member - at Trinity Landing offices, located at 5215 Junction Park Circle, Suite 102, on May 1 at 4 p.m.
