Senior Living Community Planned On Masonboro Loop Road

By Cece Nunn, posted Mar 10, 2017
Two community meetings are scheduled this month regarding a senior living community planned for Masonboro Loop Road.

The meetings concern a rezoning for 52 acres of property at 5003, 5015 and 5200 Masonboro Loop Road owned by Lutheran Services for the Aging Inc. and Lutheran Retirement Center-Wilmington Inc., according to a letter from attorney Matt Nichols of Smith Moore Leatherwood.

Lutheran Services Carolinas, a nonprofit organization, is Nichols' client and is seeking a rezoning for the land from an R-15, Residential District, to an Exceptional Design Zoning District (EDZD). The potential rezoning request would be made to New Hanover County.

According to a site plan, the community would include nearly 200 units, some labeled as apartments and some labeled as "villa/hybrid" units.

Efforts to reach a representative of Lutheran Services were not immediately successful Friday.

The community meetings will be held 5:30-7:30 p.m. March 22-23 in the Trinity Grove Community Room at 631 Junction Creek Drive in Wilmington. The Trinity Grove facility built on Junction Creek Drive in 2010 is an affiliate of Lutheran Services Carolinas.

The purpose of the meetings, which are open to the public, is to explain the proposal and answer questions attendees have about the proposal, Nichols' letter said.
