A Wilmington-based company that owns and operates thousands of apartments in New Hanover County recently completed renovations at an apartment community in midtown, and more than 50 new units are on the way.

Tribute Companies has installed new siding and roofs at Braxton Place, formerly called Sea Pines, a complex at 4191 Hearthside Drive. The firm also revamped the community’s 156 existing units with new flooring, updated cabinets and countertops and energy-saving changes in the form of new windows and doors, according to a news release.

The 54 new apartments under construction at Braxton Place include six loft-style one bedroom floorplans and 48 two-bedroom units, all featuring stainless steel appliances, updated flooring, designer cabinetry and granite countertops, stated the release from Paul D’Angelo, the company’s director of affordable housing. The new apartments have a projected fall 2016 leasing date.

In addition to renovations to the interiors and exteriors of the apartment buildings at Braxton Place, Tribute has added amenities in and around a new clubhouse, including a saltwater swimming pool, a fitness center, outdoor fireplace and dog park.

“These changes embrace and reflect the new development and growth along South 17th Street, Independence Boulevard and the developing Barclay Commons area,” the release said, referring to neighboring residential and commercial space on the way.

Rents at Braxton Place are $800 for a one-bedroom loft and $925 for a two-bedroom unit.

Currently, Tribute owns and operates 2,293 units in New Hanover County, with 479 currently under construction. That number includes adding another 54 apartments to one of the company’s most recent projects, a second phase of South Front Apartments.

More than 4,000 apartments are in planning stages or under construction in the Wilmington-area apartment market, according to a recent report.

“With all the new apartments coming on line, I think a lot of the older apartments will definitely be taking a look at what they need to do to remain competitive, maybe add amenities or improve the structures for sustainability,” D’Angelo said.

Tribute Companies Inc. consists of a group of individual companies, including Tribute Properties, which manages nearly 5,000 multi-family apartment homes in North Carolina and South Carolina.
